CONNECT WITH AFRICA

WE ASPIRE

We aspire to make Mia Woezor Africa one of the world’s most prominent educational tourism organizations, connecting generations for years to come, and enabling thousands who might not normally have the opportunity to witness their rich history and ancestral culture. We expect that this connection between peoples will grow beyond dialogue and into fruitful relationships that yield benefits not only to the peoples of the African Diaspora, nor only to Africa itself, but ultimately to all humanity.

WE EXPECT

Our expectation is that our program will motivate young people to continue to explore their African identity as well as to foster their support for the development of the African continent. We expect our participants to establish and maintain long lasting connections not only with each other, but with the Africans that they meet on their trip. We also expect that our alumni will initiate and participate in activities beneficial to people of African descent worldwide, and will elevate the level of dialogue and activity surrounding Africa and its peoples around the world. As our young people continue to grow into and influence the leaders of tomorrow, they will find assistance, inspiration and support from their peers and contemporaries as they grow parallel to one another on each side of the ocean.

OUR EDUCATIONAL CORE

The Mia Woezor Africa trip is a journey through both African history and the contemporary African state, accompanied by African peers who join the trip as colleagues and friends. The Mia Woezor Africa journey is committed to fostering a culture of open discussion and dialogue about all issues: identity, politics, religion, the African Diasporic experience and African life.
Participants of the Mia Woezor journey will be educated of their host region’s past, present and future, and to share the experience of a people who not only possess rich culture, but who also possess wealth in potential and opportunity. Participants in the Mia Woezor program will learn about the opportunities and challenges of the African peoples as a nation, and will be encouraged to share and relate their own challenges and advantages as members of the African Diaspora in different parts of the world.

All trips will focus on three core educational areas:

Narratives of the African People

Participants will visit African heritage sites: museums, tribal villages, slave trade castles, etc. to gain a greater understanding of Ghana’s history and its connection to the Western World.

Contemporary Africa

Through visits to different state and independent organizations, institutions, and businesses, participants are invited to explore the functionality and status of the African state; including the workings of Ghanaian society, politics, entrepreneurship, and technology.

Ideas and Values of the African People

Group members will experience African tradition, as ceremonies arranged by tribal chiefs and elders will welcome participants to their communities and offer a basic level of cultural familiarity. Participants will be introduced to different aspects of African culture, including cultural symbolism, tribal and societal structure, the art of storytelling and traditional teachings.
